Do as I say, not as I do...

So, we all know the "Back to Sleep" campaign launched in 1994 has reduced the incidents of SIDS enormously. We also know that Jack is a terrible napper, only napping on mommy, trapping her on the couch for 2-3 hours a day. Jack is also not a great night-time sleeper.

Well this weekend Jack fell asleep snuggled against my mom while we were tearing apart the house. We decided to put him down for a nap. (I knew this would be total bananas). So we lay him down, on his back- the INSTANT our feet hit the bottom step "WAAAAH!" No dice. So we decided that maybe what he enjoyed was the snuggling and we tried putting him down on his stomach. I know- I'm terrible!! I took the SIDS class, I know we're not supposed to do it.

He slept for 40 minutes!

I'm not going to put him to sleep at night on his belly, but hey if this means I can at least get a few minutes to myself everyday that would be fantastic. I know Jack can roll and lift his head- no problem -so developmentally he's really beyond the risk for SIDS but what if... ok so flame me all you want because I know I'm so bad but it's my blog and this is my latest fruitcake update.

Don't worry about it! Ever since we stopped swaddling Cady, she rolls all around her crib and most of the time ends up sleeping on her belly. You deserve the break and Jack deserves the sleep!

I love the notion of "fruitcake updates"!! :-) And I've witnessed some serious head-holdage-uppage of late with Little Man....so he is FINE!!! Sleep for you is ALWAYS a good thing!

i totally understand where you're coming from...sleep is so precious. amedeo is a swaddling addict and we're having a really tough time overcoming it.
maybe once Jack is napping better, his night sleep will be better also. *hope*

When Christian was about 2 months I let him sleep on his stomach (at night in the bed with me) and it was the best sleep ever. He slept for hours. Now that he's older he has turned onto his stomach and slept ok. I know the whole SIDS thing is sooo scary but as long as you watch him he should be ok. At least you'll get a little break during the day.

Jillian still does the same thing when you lay her down on her back for a nap. I've had decent luck with putting her down on her side, but half the time she rolls right over to her tummy anyhow. She still sleeps swaddled at night, and does so mostly on her tummy. Even swaddled she rolls all over the place!
